Latashia Bedgood came into the Welfare Transition Program in October 2007.  To help her with her job search and job interviewing techniques, Latashia was assigned to Employability Skills Classes.  From there she was assigned to Community Work Experience in order to gain more experience in the world of work.  Latashia was an excellent participant and she began to build her work history and develop skills that would help her in her search for employment.  Her Community Work Experience site was the Department of Children and Families (DCF).  Because of Latashia’s superior performance, she was hired by DCF in February 2008 as a full time employee.  Latashia moved to the job of Interview Clerk and remains there today.

Welfare Transition Winners - Participants of the Year

WINNER

Teresa Cole

Teresa Cole has lived most of her life in Santa Rosa County.  Her early dreams of dancing were shattered by a teenage pregnancy.  She turned to the Welfare Transition Program for help.  Teresa entered the WT program in April 2008 and was assigned job search as her major activity.  After hard work and with the assistance of child care and other support services, Teresa was able to obtain employment with the Santa Rosa Correctional Institute.  She is a Correctional Officer and for the first time Teresa feels like she has a career and not just a job.  Teresa also devotes volunteer time as a junior counselor at the Pregnancy Resource Center in Pensacola.  She never gave up her dream of dancing and has participated with Pensacola Junior College performing spring show and has designed dance programs for young people in the community.
